Catskill Interpretive Center

Many decades and the work of dedicated individuals brought this nature center into reality. With a brand new building and a grand opening deadline approaching, the task was not only to convey the activities of the region, but the history of the man whose original concept was the inspiration for the project.

Designers are often called upon to create visuals out of whole cloth, but in this case the wealth of material called for more of an editing down to a laser-sharp focus.

Studio Tour

Art studio tour
poster and title cards

This annual tour of artist studios required a fresh look for their latest poster. Working with an existing logo, I was able to include some simple design elements (brush, palette, paint splashes) to evoke the creative process.

Maintaining aesthetic continuity was important, so the title cards and other printed material incorporated the same compositional scheme.

Magazine

Designing the GoodLife

This magazine was started several years ago by Cathy McNamara in response to a growing crisis among the young people in a small town in upstate New York. She enlisted local youth to write, draw, photograph and otherwise contribute, and the publication grew.

My job was to take disparate elements from kids ranging from 10 to 20 and to synthesize them into an aesthetically cohesive whole. From fiction to fashion to poetry an d beyond, we were able to make the journal sing with color and variety, yet maintain a consistent look.

Logos

A picture is worth a thousand words, so they say. True enough, the visual symbol (combined with text or on its own) can be a powerful communication tool. Symbols transcend language and boundaries.

This is why they have been used since the beginning of time to convey important messages. Do not leave the development of your logo to the inexperienced. Trust a pro who has been dealing in imagery his whole career.

Elements

Text

This is bold and this is strong. This is italic and this is emphasized. This is superscript text and this is subscript text. This is underlined and this is code: for (;;) { ... }. Finally, this is a link.
